Reiki

Reiki is a deeply relaxing and profoundly calming treatment that promotes good health and well being on all levels; physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. It is a system of energy healing developed in Japan in the 19th century by Dr. Mikao Usui from many years of study, research and meditation. Reiki means universal energy. This energy is known as 'Ki' in Japan, 'Chi' in China and 'Prana' in India. It is recognised as the energy that flows through all living things and is vital to well being. When this energy becomes low or blocked in a person we may become stressed or unwell. During the practise of Reiki, energy is channeled by the therapist to various parts of the body to promote balance and self healing.

Benefits can include:

  • Deep relaxation and profound stress relief
  • Improved sleep
  • Reduction of anxiety
  • Strengthening of self healing powers and the body's immune system
  • Increase in personal energy and vitality
  • Release of emotional and energetic blocks

Reiki is a safe option for all ages, including newborn and the frail and elderly. It is safe for pregnant women and those who have undergone recent surgery. Reiki can be used in conjunction with all forms of treatment, both orthodox and complementary.

A Reiki treatment is for one hour lying fully clothed on a therapy couch, although sitting is also possible for those who find lying uncomfortable. The therapist lays hands on or just above the energy centres of the body. No massage or manipulation is involved. Reiki is a non-invasive therapy, the purpose of which is to treat the whole person and to restore homeostasis.
